GuestIn a surprising move, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has taken a stance that undercuts former President Donald Trump on the issue of immigration, a key topic that propelled Trump to the White House in 2016. DeSantis not only criticized Trump’s handling of the matter but also painted President Joe Biden as being even worse in this regard.
In what is being seen as his first major policy proposal as a presidential candidate, DeSantis called for an end to the controversial practice known as “catch and release.” This practice involves releasing undocumented migrants into American communities while they await court hearings. DeSantis argued that this approach needs to be halted and proposed implementing measures to block asylum seekers from entering the United States through the U.S.-Mexico border while their claims are being processed.
Additionally, DeSantis echoed Trump’s previous stance by suggesting that children born in the United States to parents living here illegally should no longer be automatically granted citizenship. This proposal is expected to face significant legal challenges as it touches upon the longstanding principle of birthright citizenship.
Interestingly, DeSantis went further and specifically criticized Trump’s signature policy issue from his 2016 campaign—the construction of a U.S.-Mexico border wall. While Trump’s administration was unable to complete the wall during his presidency, DeSantis pledged that if elected, he would ensure its completion. The latest Texas news is here https://buzznor.com/.
